Archbishop Pius Kereketta of Ranchi,
who had followed closely the missionary spirit of the Sisters and was happy to receive them into his diocese at Ranchi.

The Sisters of St. Joseph had their first formation house established in the diocese of Ranchi, supported by the bishop of Jamshedpur and the Jesuits of Jamshedpur province.

In October 1973,
the newly built formation house
which is known today as
' Asha Nivas '
was blessed by
Rt. Rev. Drs. J. R. Rodricks,
Bishop of Jamshedpur and
George Soupin of Daltanganj.

Sister Patricia Coogan, was named
the first delegation superior and
the mistress of the novices.

In 1974 Sr. Carmen Samut,
arrived from Malta
to help in the formation of the candidates.

A small house was constructed in the same compound
for the formation of the candidates.
Sisters Patricia Coogan,
Denys Marie Byrne,
Renee Quadros,
Arul Mary and
Jyothi Samad
have worked as
the mistresses of novices
till to this day.
